In February 2003, Maothai opened in Palma de Mallorca, opposite the Marivent Palace, the summer residence of the Spanish royal family. Staff from the Berlin restaurants flew specially to Spain for the opening. The restaurant quickly made a name for itself and existed until 2018. Its success contributed to the subsequent establishment of numerous further Thai restaurants on Mallorca and Ibiza.
